Course description
 This practical course is delivered by Chartered Physiotherapists experienced in community based rehabilitation and reablement.
Training objectives

  • To enable support workers to facilitate clients in transfers and mobility practice

  • To enable support workers to facilitate clients in carrying out home exercise programmes confidently, correctly, effectively and safely

  • To assist in reablement service planning through accurate and safe reporting / communication

  • To enable support workers to positively manage risk.


 

Learning outcomes
By the end of this course it is anticipated you will have;


  • Knowledge of types of walking aids and be able to relate to clients’ needs

  • Awareness of appropriate heights of common walking aids

  • An understanding of different walking patterns and how to promote safe mobility

  • An understanding of different weight bearing statuses and why they are important

  • Knowledge of safe techniques for bed, chair/commode transfers

  • Awareness of safe stair techniques for both client and support worker

  • An understanding of hip precautions following a total hip replacement

  • The ability to promote the safe usage of walking aids and understand when to feedback to therapists

  • Awareness of the importance of exercise in the clients’ reablement

  • Awareness of how different aspects of exercise relate to clients’ needs and goals

  • Awareness of important considerations when supervising home exercise programmes.
