Course description

This course is suitable for all care/support workers wishing to learn more about learning disability to support their practice.


This session includes a presentation from the Involvement Matters Team; a group of people with learning disabilities who represent the views of others across East Sussex

Training objectives

To have an overview of the nature of learning disability and current approaches to practice.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course it is anticipated you will be able to:

·     Recognise the nature and characteristics of learning disability

·     Discuss how views and attitudes impact on the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and their family/ carers

·     Recognise which legislation and policies support the human rights and inclusion of individuals with learning disabilities

·     Identify how to promote communication with individuals with learning disabilities.
