Course description

This is a ½ day course covering low to medium mobility issues and use of equipment for service users.


The course covers:
Reiteration of legislation
Dynamic risk assessment
Well-being of both carer and service users
Assisting to stand
Support when walking
The use of a handling belt
Using a transfer board
Saturn turner
Molift riser
Dressing aids
Pushing a wheelchair.


This course has a large practical element and all participants are expected to practice all manoeuvres and use all equipment.


There will be no use of hoists or standaids or any bed work during this course. For these elements please book the half day Restricted
Mobility Course.

Training objectives

To renew and update previous ESCC certificate in Moving and Handling of People with low to medium level mobility issues.


To ensure good posture is maintained by carer or support worker to enhance the experience the beneficiary has whilst being assisted.


Ensure the correct equipment and support is given to the beneficiary.


To monitor for any change in the abilities and gain further assistance when necessary.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, it is anticipated candidates will:



  • Refresh knowledge of legislation about Moving and Handling of people

  • Renew skills in supporting and assisting people to move

  • Practice skills in the use of basic equipment to include:

  • Handling belt

  • Wheelchairs

  • Transfer boards

  • Saturn turner

  • Molift

  • Dressing aids

  • An emphasis on posture for beneficiaries and carers.

Additional Information

Course to be held at Firwood House. The car park at Firwood House, Eastbourne is NOT for use by delegates on training courses. Please find alternative parking, details of which can be found on the attached map.

All candidates must be suitably dressed for this practical course. No open toed or high heeled shoes are accepted in the training room.
