Course description

This 2 day training course is aimed at Housing OT Assistants, Wheelchair Service OT Assistants and newly qualified OTs who have not had formal adaptations training.



The course will cover:



  • Legislation relating to adaptations

  • Introduction to reading plans and producing simple scaled drawings

  • Considerations when adapting bathrooms and toilets

  • Considerations when adapting access to a property

  • Stairs and stair lifts

  • Wheelchair circulation.

Training objectives

  • Understand the role of the OT/A in the adaptations process

  • Be aware of the factors to be considered when designing adaptations.

Learning outcomes

By the end of Day 1 it is anticipated delegates will:



  • Have an understanding of the legislative framework underpinning the provision of major adaptations

  • Have an understanding of relevant building regulations and design guidance

  • Have a basic understanding of how to read architectural plans

  • Be able to produce a simple scale drawing

  • Have an understanding of the range of options when planning and designing a bathroom/toilet adaptation.


 


By the end of Day 1 it is anticipated delegates will:



  • Have an understanding of the range of options when planning and designing access solutions

  • Have an understanding of spatial requirements for users of wheeled chairs and moving and handling equipment

  • Have an understanding of the range of options when considering changes in level in a property.

Additional Information

Both days must be attended to complete this training.

PLEASE BRING A TAPE MEASURE AND SCALE RULE IF YOU HAVE THEM. 

ALSO PLEASE BRING A SKETCH PLAN OF YOUR BATHROOM WITH MEASUREMENTS OF THE OVERALL SIZE OF THE ROOM AND ANY SANITARY WARE (BATH, SHOWER, TOILET, BASIN).

Tea and coffee will be provided.  Please bring your own lunch.
