Course description

Please read the attached document "Attending Online Training" before joining the course.

2 courses are currently available within Adult Social Care at East Sussex, a 2 hour face to face training or alternatively this 1 hour session for those who prefer not to complete face to face training of practical techniques. Delegates therefore do not need complete both sessions and should choose one option 

The course covers
• Health and safety legislation relating to moving and handling of objects
• Anatomy of the spine and the principles of good positioning and movement when lifting and carrying, as well as pushing and pulling
• Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
• Manual and Handling Operations Regulations 1992
• Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
• Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
• Basic awareness of the anatomy of the spine
• Awareness of a good lifting principles.

This is a stand alone theoretical course only.

Videos will be shown of some practical techniques.

A quiz will be set for the theoretical knowledge of legislation and anatomy.

It is a requirement that the test is completed for delegates to complete the course.

Training objectives

To give staff a basic awareness of employers and employees requirements under current health and safety legislation and how this should be put into practice.

An understanding of the anatomy of the spine, how the body works and how best to protect your back when moving objects (posture).

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, it is anticipated candidates will:

• Have knowledge of several pieces of legislation relating to moving and handling as well as equipment
• Have a basic knowledge of anatomy in relation to movement
• Understand the principles of good posture when undertaking any manual handling.
