This course will be delivered via an Online TEAMS meeting and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue. A half day course designed to explore the case risk management policy and procedures in line with the Care Act. Staff will have an opportunity to use and complete risk assessment tools with case studies or examples from your own practice.

The course is suitable for: Contact and Assessment Teams; Occupational Therapy Teams; Neighbourhood Support Teams; Mental Health and Learning Disability Teams; Transition Teams, Hospital Teams, Sensory Teams, Reviewing teams, Health and Social Care Connect (HSCC), Occupational Therapy Teams (OT), Neighbourhood Support Teams (NST), Crisis Response Nurses (CR Nurses).

This is a remotely delivered course and delegates should therefore ignore any map or venue information.

• To explore the key duties and responsibilities of the Care Act in relation to managing risk


• To improve understanding of the case risk management operational guidance and practice standards


• To understand how and when risk assessment tools must be applied in practice


• To explore the need to balance positive risk taking with duty of care. Share ideas and experiences with other participants.

By the end of this session it is anticipated you will be able to:

• Consider the knowledge, skills and attitudes that underpin good practice in working with risk and understand the principles of choice and positive/supported risk taking


• Explore the importance of positive risk taking


• Review risk identification, assessment and management process and understand the support adults need in taking and managing risks in their daily lives


• Reflect on your practice and the recording processes you need to ensure you have evidence to support your professional judgements


• Recognise how Mental Capacity will impact on risk management


• Explain when Safeguarding procedures need to be implemented in relation to risk.
