Course description

This course will be delivered via In-Person Classroom training. You will be expected to attend a specific venue on the date(s) of the training. Please see the course full details and attached map for further information.


This Moving and Handling training session, delivered face to face with appropriate Covid 19 PPE provision, is aimed at Adult Social Care staff who assess for and prescribe manual handling equipment.


Prescribers of moving and handling equipment must complete yearly training in the assessment for and use of moving and handling equipment.


It is a prerequisite that Occupational Therapists have attended the virtual theory training before attending Part 2 the practical session.


This venue has a current Covid19 risk assessment. Any delegates showing Covid19 symptoms must not attend the training venue.

Training objectives

To provide Occupational Therapists and other prescribers of moving and handling equipment the knowledge to assess and provide appropriate equipment and techniques to ensure optimal manual handling practice for their clients.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, it is anticipated you will:



  • Be confident in demonstrating and prescribing a range of manual handling equipment, including turning aids, sliding boards, handling belts, leg lifters, hoists, slings, slide sheets etc.

  • Understand the importance of a comprehensive moving and handling risk assessment and plan and your role within this process

  • Be able to complete and demonstrate a variety of sit to stand techniques that are safe for your client and yourself

  • Be able to undertake a variety of different techniques for moving and handling a client with restricted mobility in bed

  • Be familiar with some single carer techniques that can be used with clients.

Additional Information

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops. Candidates will need to wear PPE.

NB. please note there is no access to any drinks or refreshments, so candidates will need to bring their own with them.
