Course description

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ALL STAFF ATTEND FACE TO FACE TRAINING WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE.

 

Please look out for an email to complete the session evaluation. We would appreciate your time in completing this so we can evaluate this temporary process. You will then be able to access your certificate via the learning portal

 

This course will be delivered live via Skype or Microsoft Teams so participants will need to be able to use both systems.

 

This course is suitable for any staff working with clients who have or may develop issues with capacity to make decisions (e.g. clients with dementia /learning disability/alcohol abuse/drug abuse etc.)

 

The course provides an overview of the Act covering assessing capacity, making best interest decisions, lasting powers of attorney, IMCAs and advanced decisions.

Training objectives
The Mental Capacity Act 2005 provides a statutory framework to empower and protect vulnerable people who are not able to make their own decisions. It makes it clear who can make decisions, in which situation and how they should go about this. This session aims to help staff develop their understanding of this significant piece of legislation and begin to consider the impact of the act on their service and their own practice.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this session it is anticipated staff will be familiar with the 5 key principles that underpin this legislation; assessing capacity, making best interest decisions, lasting powers of attorney, IMCAs and advanced decisions.
