IMPORTANT: THIS TRAINING IS PART OF THE COVID-19 INTERIM TRAINING PROGRAMME AND IS SUITABLE FOR NEW AND EXISTNG STAFF.


THIS TRAINING IS DELIVERED USING VIDEOS AND USEFUL RESOURCES IN CONJUNCTION WITH A WORKBOOK YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE. PLEASE IGNORE THE START AND FINISH TIMES OF THIS TRAINING ON THE LEARNING PORTAL.


IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT NEW STAFF ATTEND FACE TO FACE TRAINING WHEN AVAILABLE.


You will be sent a First Aid manual and workbook via email, so it’s vital that you give us your correct email address if it differs from the one on your East Sussex Learning Portal user account.


Workbooks are not to be shared between colleagues; each person who wishes to complete this training MUST book their own place on it. Workbooks returned to the trainer by delegates who have not booked a place will NOT be marked.


After reading the First Aid manual, please complete the Microsoft forms workbook by no later than 10am the Thursday after you receive the manual.


Submissions received after this time will not be marked and your training record will not be updated to show completion of this course. Please only submit once as only the first submission will be looked at. Ann will assess your submission and send summative feedback to you.


Your East Sussex Learning Portal user account will be updated to show completion of this training once your workbook has been marked.


This is a distance learning course which does not involve attendance at a training venue or a virtual meeting. You will be sent a First Aid manual and links for the workbook via Microsoft forms via email closer to the date of the course. Delegates should therefore ignore any map or venue information.

Code: ASC/22/310 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness

This course will be delivered via Online Recorded Video, and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue.

This online training course is aimed at all frontline staff to increase their awareness, knowledge and skills in relation to working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing. 

The course is designed to raise awareness of the barriers facing people who are deaf or are hard of hearing. It also highlights how practitioners can adjust their behaviour and create conducive environments to improve communication with people who are deaf or are hard of hearing.

The course is delivered via a pre-recorded (voice over) PowerPoint presentation which can be viewed multiple times. There are also various activities and a case study to engage the learner. The course requires the completion and return of a workbook which serves to foster a deeper level of learning. 

The video (YouTube) can be viewed on all digital platforms (including mobile phone) and can be viewed independently or as a small group (dependent on organisational social distancing policy) so please ensure you have YouTube installed.

The course also contains video links to the internet; thus, internet access is required. 

The workbook comes in a Word document format so access to Microsoft Word is required.

Handouts are provided in PDF format which are accessible via a screen reader if required.

Course links and materials will be sent by midday on the day of your course.

Ideally each delegate should have their own personal/work email address on their East Sussex Learning Portal user account. Where this is not possible, please be advised that it is the responsibility of each training delegate’s line manager to forward these documents to them, so they have them in time for their training.

The course can be accessed from 9.30am on the date scheduled. Delegates can complete the course at any time during the week but must submit the workbook by 5pm on the Friday after the scheduled course date.

Allocate approx. 2-4 hrs to complete the course. Speed of course completion depends on the learner.

Code: ASC/22/248 Epilepsy and Emergency Medication - ESCC DPS staff only

This course will be delivered via In-Person Classroom training. You will be expected to attend a specific venue on the date of the training. Please see the course full details and attached map for further information.

This course is suitable for all ESCC DPS support workers who support people who have epilepsy.

Please note: This session includes an assessment of competence in a training environment (measuring a 1ml dose).

Following this training and BEFORE administering Buccal Midazolam: It is the manager’s responsibility to ensure that the staff member understands each individual client’s care plan /support profile regarding the administration and use of Buccal Midazolam. The manager needs to sign the attendance certificate to show this part of the competency assessment has been carried out.


East Sussex Training and Development Centre have completed a Covid-19 risk assessment on the training centre rooms and mitigating actions are in place.

ESCC staff at a high risk of Covid-19 should complete Individual Covid-19 Risk Assessment with their manager and send to corporate.training@eastsussex.gov.uk at least one week before the course date.

Any delegates showing Covid19 symptoms, must not attend the training centre.

Please bring an extra layer of clothing as training centre windows may be opened for ventilation.

This course will be delivered via In-Person Classroom training. You will be expected to attend a specific venue on the date(s) of the training. Please see the course full details and attached map for further information.

This is a face to face theory and practical session.

There are 2 courses are currently available within Adult Social Care at East Sussex, this face to face training or alternatively there is a 1 hour session for those who prefer not to complete face to face training of practical techniques.  Delegates therefore do not need complete both sessions and should choose one option.

To adhere to Covid19 regulations this face to face course will be small groups with PPE masks, aprons and gloves provided.

The course covers legislation and anatomy.

The course provides an overview of:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Manual and Handling Operations Regulations 1992
  • Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Basic awareness of the anatomy of the spine
  • Awareness of good lifting principles including position/posture
  • Practical element of the base lift - candidates will not be lifting anything above 10kg

This course will be delivered via an Online TEAMS meeting and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue. The link to attend this training will be sent to you one week before the training date. Please note this email will be sent from the East Sussex Learning Portal. Please make sure you check your Spam/Junk folders for this email. Please read the attached document, Attending Online Training, before joining the course.

You must have completed Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 1 before attending this course. When requesting a place on this course, you must allow 3 weeks between the date of the course and the date you completed Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 1 to allow for the workbook to be completed, returned to the Trainer and marked. If Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 1 has not been completed, your place on this course will not be confirmed.

This course is for care givers who assist and provide personal care for those clients with limited mobility, i.e. clients who are non-weight bearing, hoisted or spend prolonged periods in bed.

The course covers the following:

• Reflection on health and safety and care legislation relevant to moving and handling of people with complex needs
• Via videos we demonstrate a variety of equipment, including hoists and slings, stand aids and in-situ slide sheets
• We discuss various techniques for fitting slings with and without slide sheets
• We cover the effects that immobility has on the body, in relation to posture, tissue viability, circulation etc and the importance of ensuring clients sit in a functional postural position and are repositioned appropriately
• We discuss the needs of clients who have restricted mobility within bed or who may need to spend prolonged periods within the bed, covering equipment and techniques to assist with rolling, repositioning in bed, techniques to fit slings for clients who have limited ability or are unable to be rolled.
