This Zoom course replaces one of the postponed March 2020 sessions. It is now a full half day course running from 9.30 a.m. to 15.30 p.m. The first Pilot course in August was free but all usual charges now apply.
This course will address gang crime and youth violence. This has been identified as a national priority and this course will enable frontline staff and those working with children and young people to identify individuals at risk of gang involvement and to provide timely support and interventions to support them.
This course will be delivered by Excelsior Safeguarding CIC, a ‘not for profit’ organisation established to provide effective help and support to vulnerable young people and adults. The sessions are relevant for colleagues who work with children and young people as well as vulnerable adults
It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children (or an equivalent Safeguarding/ Child Protection Awareness course within your own organisation, and Child Sexual Exploitation e-learning courses prior to coming on this course, see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.
This live, interactive course will be delivered via Zoom. Full joining instructions, including links and guidance will be sent close to the start date. Please ensure you read theses prior to the course start date and keep them in a safe place.Essential Information
This is part 2 of a two part blended learning training programme to be used to reduce face to face training time in accordance with COVID 19 regulations.
Part 1 of the training must be completed prior to attending Part 2 which is a face to face practical.
The part 2 practical can be applied for if candidates have attended a live SKYPE version of the course tilted “Moving and Handling of People with Restricted Mobility (e.g hoists and slide sheets) for Care Support Workers/Volunteers and PAs - Covid19 Interim Training Programme”.
To adhere to Covid19 regulations this face to face course will be small groups with PPE masks, aprons and gloves provided.
The course is 2.5 hours long and will cover practical elements of:
LOLER check requirements of carers
Caring for and assisting clients with restricted mobility
Choosing and fitting slings, in bed and in a seated position, with and without slide sheets
Hoisting clients from the bed and from a seated position
Safe use of slide sheets to reposition clients
In situ slide sheets, techniques and applications
The use of stand aids
Moving and handling plans
Using dressing aids for a client in bed.
For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops. Candidates will need to wear PPE.
NB please note there is no access to any drinks or refreshments, so candidates will need to bring their own with them.

Successful negotiation is an important communication skill. This course serves as an introduction to best practice negotiations, providing an understanding of the importance of influence – striving for win/win solutions.
Please note that there is some use of role playing exercises in this course, to assist with developing your skills and strategies.

This course is designed to explore the direct payments procedures in line with the Care Act 2014 legal requirements. Staff will have an opportunity to learn about the types of direct payment and the benefits to an individual.

This course is open to anyone interested in the role of the Personal Assistant (PA) or who is considering becoming a PA in health and social care and will be delivered via Microsoft Teams.
It is required training for anyone joining the Support with Confidence accreditation scheme as a Personal Assistant.
