  •  Workbooks are not to be shared between colleagues; each person who wishes to complete this training MUST book their own place on it. Workbooks returned to the trainer by delegates who have not booked a place will NOT be marked
  • After reading the First Aid manual, please complete the workbook and return it (via an email with answers typed or completed in PDF, saved and returned) for marking to ann.holland@eastsussex.gov.uk by no later than the Thursday after you receive the manual.

Code: ASC/21/367 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness

This online training course is aimed at all frontline staff to increase their awareness, knowledge and skills in relation to working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing. 

The course is designed to raise awareness of the barriers facing people who are deaf or are hard of hearing. It also highlights how practitioners can adjust their behaviour and create conducive environments to improve communication with people who are deaf or are hard of hearing.

The course is delivered via a pre-recorded (voice over) Powerpoint presentation which can be viewed multiple times. There are also various activities and a case study to engage the learner. The course requires the completion and return of a workbook which serves to foster a deeper level of learning. 

The video (YouTube) can be viewed on all digital platforms (including mobile phone) and can be viewed independently or as a small group (dependent on organisational social distancing policy) so please ensure you have YouTube installed.

The course also contains video links to the internet; thus, internet access is required. 

The workbook comes in a Word document format so access to Microsoft Word is required.

Handouts are provided in PDF format which are accessible via a screen reader if required.

Delegates on this training will be emailed all necessary resources by the trainer. Ideally each delegate should have their own personal/work email address on their East Sussex Learning Portal user account. Where this is not possible, please be advised that it is the responsibility of each training delegate’s line manager to forward these documents to them, so they have them in time for their training.

The course can be accessed from 9.30am on the date scheduled. Delegates can complete the course at any time during the week but must submit the workbook by 5pm on the Friday after the scheduled course date.


Allocate approx. 2-4 hrs to complete the course. Speed of course completion depends on the learner.

Code: ASC/21/743 Moving and Handling of Objects Theory and Practical, face to face session - Covid19 Interim Training Programme

2 hour face to face theory and practical session.

2 courses are currently available within adult social care at East Sussex, this 2 hour face to face training or alternatively there is a 1 hour session for those who prefer not to complete face to face training of practical techniques. Delegates therefore do not need to complete both sessions and should choose one option.

To adhere to Covid19 Regulations this face to face course will be small groups with PPE masks, aprons and gloves provided.

The course covers legislation and anatomy.

The course provides an overview of:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Manual and Handling Operations Regulations 1992
  • Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Basic awareness of the anatomy of the spine.
  • Awareness of good lifting principles including position/posture.
  • Practical element of the base lift - candidates will not be lifting anything above 10kg.

A half day course designed to explore the case risk management policy and procedures in line with the Care Act. Staff will have an opportunity to use and complete risk assessment tools with case studies or examples from your own practice.

The course is suitable for: Contact and Assessment Teams; Occupational Therapy Teams; Neighbourhood Support Teams; Mental Health and Learning Disability Teams; Transition Teams, Hospital Teams, Sensory Teams, Reviewing teams, Health and Social Care Connect (HSCC), Occupational Therapy Teams (OT), Neighbourhood Support Teams (NST), Crisis Response Nurses (CR Nurses).
