Induction to being a Personal Assistant
This course covers the knowledge base information of the Care Certificate. It is also a required course if you are applying to be an accredited PA by Support with Confidence (SWC) if you do not have a suitable qualification.
It is also open to people who are either employed as a PA or are thinking of taking on this role in the near future. If you wish to achieve the Care Certificate you will also need to undertake homework and be able to be assessed in your workplace by either volunteering to shadow one of our services or have agreement to be assessed in your workplace (as a PA).
Moving and Handling of people with Dementia
Delegates must have attended the foundation level course before attending this training session.
This half day course is aimed at those who care and provide moving and handling assistance for people with dementia. The course looks at the challenges and issues that can arise when helping someone with dementia to move and transfer.
The course covers:
Symptoms of dementia that affect mobility and movement
The differences between violence, aggression, anxiety and fear and factors influencing them
Behaviour in dementia, focusing on non verbal, verbal and physical. Possible reasons and triggers for such behaviour
Triggers that can be linked to behaviour specific to moving and handling techniques and strategies and interventions that can be utilised to reduce distress, including equipment and handling techniques
Risk assessing for those with dementia and fluctuating ability.
Part of the course is practical so participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops.
The Care Act: National Eligibility Criteria Adults and Carers
This course is designed to explain the national eligibility criteria for both adults with care and support needs and informal carers. This course will give an opportunity to apply the national eligibility criteria to both an adult and carer and understand the difference between adult and carer eligibility.
