Code: ASC/21/1179 Basic Epilepsy Awareness Training - for Learning Disability Services (non ESCC) ONLY

This training is ONLY suitable for those working in a Learning Disability service.  ESCC staff should not attend this training but should refer to the ESCC DPS ONLY programme.
 
  •  At the end of the training, a Community Learning Disability Nurse will demonstrate how to administer emergency medication used in epilepsy and you will watch a DVD of safe administration of Buccal Midazolam. You will also have the opportunity to practice the administration of rectal diazepam.

If you require the rectal Diazepam training, please contact the Adult Social Care training team at asct@eastsussex.gov.uk to confirm this. There is specific equipment needed that will only be brought on courses where delegates have confirmed a need for rectal Diazepam training. 

  • Your manager will be responsible for providing ongoing support in the workplace but it will be your responsibility to highlight any concerns you have regarding administration of the medication.
  • A certificate of attendance will be provided; this is not a certificate of competence.

Workbooks received after this time will not be marked and your training record will not be updated to show completion of this course.

Code: ASC/21/406 Dementia Awareness (Tiers 1 and 2) Module 1 (EVENT FULL)

This is a foundation level Online course and must be attended to attend other dementia related courses that explore specific aspects of Dementia in more detail (eg. behaviour, reablement, communication and interaction, activities). This course is aimed at all frontline staff to increase their awareness and knowledge of people who are experiencing Dementia.

The course is delivered via a recorded PowerPoint presentation which has been uploaded on the ESCC YouTube Channel. The Course can be accessed over a 5-day period providing flexibility for the learner. There are various activities and case studies to engage the learner. The course requires the completion and return of a workbook which serves to foster a deeper level of learning.

The video (YouTube) can be viewed on all digital platforms (including mobile phone) and can be viewed independently or as a small group (dependent on organisational social distancing policy) so please ensure you have YouTube installed.

This is a remotely delivered course and delegates should therefore ignore any map or venue information.

Once your place on this event has been confirmed, you will receive a separate email from the trainer, providing you with all the resources you need to complete the training.

You will receive an email with full instructions by 10am on the day of the training (including all resources and links)

Code: ASC/21/1089 Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers/Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Level - Covid19 Interim Training Programme (EVENT FULL)

This course provides delegates with knowledge of safe moving and handling techniques and a basic knowledge of equipment they may need to use to safely move and handle a client. This course does not cover clients with restricted mobility issues, i.e. those who need hoisting or are cared for in bed. 

Due to the practical nature of moving and handling of people, it is recommended when accessible, candidates complete the face to face training available through East Sussex County Council.

The course covers:

• A basic knowledge of key legislation affecting the moving and handling and care of objects and people
• Anatomy of the spine and how to reduce the risk of spinal injury by implementing safe handling principles
• The importance of good sitting posture
• Knowledge of a range of safe moving and handling assisted mobility techniques, i.e. assisted standing techniques
• Techniques to assist someone getting in and out of a bed

Code: ASC/21/1126 Posture and Seating: An Integral Component of Good Moving and Handling for Clients with Restricted Mobility - Covid19 Interim Training Programme

This course is aimed at those assessing and caring for adults with restricted mobility who struggle to re-adjust or move their position when seated.

The course covers:

  • Normal posture and how function relates to posture
  • Anatomy of the pelvis and spine
  • The effects that immobility has on the body, in relation to posture, tissue viability, circulation etc
  • An awareness of postural issues and how to correct them or support them
  • The importance of ensuring that clients sit in a functional postural position and are repositioned appropriately
  • Appropriate hoisting techniques into a chair
  • Ensuring the client's seat provides suitable support for them.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops or open toe sandals.
