Workbooks are not to be shared between colleagues; each person who wishes to complete this training MUST book their own place on it. Workbooks returned to the trainer by delegates who have not booked a place will NOT be marked.


After reading the First Aid manual, please complete the Microsoft forms workbook by no later than 10am the Thursday after you receive the manual.


Submissions received after this time will not be marked and your training record will not be updated to show completion of this course. Please only submit once as only the first submission will be looked at. Ann will assess your submission and send summative feedback to you.


Your East Sussex Learning Portal user account will be updated to show completion of this training once your workbook has been marked.


This is a distance learning course which does not involve attendance at a training venue or a virtual meeting. This virtual training is for Provider Managers and their senior staff, who may be asked to make (caused to) or contribute to a safeguarding enquiry under Section 42 of the Care Act 2014 and is made up of 4 modules.

All 4 modules need to be completed to have successfully completed this training. The modules are:

Module 1 - What is Safeguarding? on 14.06.2022 at 10.00 am -11.30 am
Module 2 - Making Safeguarding Personal on 15.06.2022 at 10.00 am - 12.00 pm
Module 3 - Information Sharing and Record Keeping on 20.06.2022 at 10.00 am -11.30am
Module 4 - Making Enquiries on 23.06.2022 at 10.00 am to 12.00 pm

Staff will need to have completed a Safeguarding Adults Basic Awareness training session before attending this virtual training.

The modules of this virtual training will include duties under s42 of the Care Act 2014; involving the adult – using a Making Safeguarding Personal approach to support the adult to determine their outcomes; planning an enquiry and becoming familiar with ESCC documentation.

Each module will be delivered through Microsoft Teams. Once your place on this event has been confirmed, you will receive a separate email with the 4 links to the Microsoft Teams meetings (one per module).

Code: ASC/22/326 Module 5: The Use of Medication for Clients who have Dementia (Tier 2)

This course will be delivered via Online Recorded Video and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue.

This course is aimed at frontline staff who are working directly with people who are experiencing Dementia. (Tier 2 - linked to Dementia Training Standards Framework 2018).

*NOTE: It is recommended that you have completed Module 1: Dementia Awareness (Tiers 1 and 2) prior to taking this course to optimise your learning. These courses run regularly each month*

  • This course looks at what medications are used to treat people with Dementia including cognitive enhancers, psychotropics and pain management.
  • The course is delivered via a Recorded PowerPoint presentation which has been uploaded on the ESCC YouTube Channel. The course can be accessed over a 5-day period providing flexibility for the learner. There are various activities and case studies to engage the learner. The course requires the completion of an online assessment. This serves to consolidate and evidence learning.
  • The video (YouTube) can be viewed on all digital platforms (including mobile phone) and can be viewed independently or as a small group (dependant on organisational social distancing policy) so please ensure you have YouTube installed.

Code: ASC/22/364 Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 2 (practical face to face session)

This course will be delivered via In-Person Classroom training. You will be expected to attend a specific venue on the date(s) of the training. Please see the course full details and attached map for further information.

When requesting a place on this course, you must allow 3 weeks between the dates of Part 1 and Part 2 to allow for the workbook to be completed, returned to the Trainer and marked. When you book Part 2 please provide us with the date Part 1 was completed in the Special Requirements field on your booking form. If Part 1 has not been completed, your place on Part 2 will not be confirmed.

To adhere to Covid19 regulations this face to face course will be small groups with PPE masks, aprons and gloves provided.

The course will cover practical elements of:

  • Mobility testing
  • Sit to stand techniques
  • Assisting from chair to chair
  • Assisting in and out of bed, including the use of bed levers, bed pulls, non-slip slide sheets, leg lifters, utilising the profiling mattress
  • Walking aids
  • Assisting to walk techniques
  • Handling belts
  • Assisting clients on steps and stairs
  • Sliding boards
  • Turning aids
  • Dressing aids
  • Wheelchairs, including placing a wheelchair into a car.

Please specify on your application if you are new to care work and haven’t completed a practical moving and handling training, so priority can be given to your application.

You must have completed Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 1 and Part 2 before attending this course. When requesting a place on this course, you must allow 1 week between the date of the course and the date you completed Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 2 for the register to be marked. If Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Part 1 and Part 2 have not been completed, your place on this course will not be confirmed.

The course is 2.5 hours long and will cover practical elements of:

  • LOLER check requirements of carers
  • Caring for and assisting clients with restricted mobility
  • Choosing and fitting slings, in bed and in a seated position, with and without slide sheets
  • Hoisting clients from the bed and from a seated position
  • Safe use of slide sheets to reposition clients
  • In situ slide sheets, techniques and applications
  • The use of stand aids
  • Moving and handling plans
  • Using dressing aids for a client in bed.
