Code: ASC/20/338 Basic Epilepsy Awareness Training - for Learning Disability Services (non ESCC) ONLY (Cancelled)

This training is ONLY suitable for those working in a Learning Disability service.  ESCC staff should not attend this training but should refer to the ESCC DPS ONLY programme.
  •  At the end of the training, a Community Learning Disability Nurse will demonstrate how to administer emergency medication used in epilepsy and you will watch a DVD of safe administration of Buccal Midazolam. You will also have the opportunity to practice the administration of rectal diazepam.

If you require the rectal Diazepam training, please contact the Adult Social Care training team at to confirm this. There is specific equipment needed that will only be brought on courses where delegates have confirmed a need for rectal Diazepam training. 

  • Your manager will be responsible for providing ongoing support in the workplace but it will be your responsibility to highlight any concerns you have regarding administration of the medication.
  • A certificate of attendance will be provided; this is not a certificate of competence.

Code: ASC/20/599 Hoarding Awareness - online course - Covid19 Interim Training Programme

This course will enable learners to fully understand how hoarding affects people, empowering the learners to empathise with people suffering from Hoarding Disorder whilst exploring ways to develop skills for supporting clients to help themselves in how to overcome their inability to dispose of their belongings. The course will also include the current restrictions placed upon organisations working with people who hoard during COVID-19. 

The training will be delivered through Microsoft Teams in two sessions to allow for a break, starting 10.30 to 12.30 AM and 2.00 to 4.00PM.

Delegates must attend BOTH sessions to complete the course and receive their certificate.

Once your place on this event has been confirmed, you will receive a separate Outlook calendar invite with a link to the Microsoft Teams meeting. Please note this invite will be sent close to the day/time of the event. Please read the attached document "Attending our online Training" before joining the course.

LAS Search and View is a half day of training for East Sussex County Council users to familiarise themselves with the Adults Liquid Logic platform. This course is designed to show you how to navigate Liquid Logic, find clients and view case data and includes viewing scanned images held within ECaseFile

This course is for anyone joining an ESCC team that uses LAS whether to view client data or input data into the system

As a new staff member your manager must request that a Liquid Logic account is created for you before attending this course. When the account is created you will receive an e-mail invitation to book onto this course. Existing users are welcome to book if they wish to refresh their skills.

You must complete this training in order to be able to access the LIVE system. The trainer will activate your account on attendance.

Code: ASC/20/578 Moving and Handling of People and Objects for Care Support Workers/Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Level - Covid19 Interim Training Programme (EVENT FULL)

AVAILABLE. Please look out for an email to complete session evaluation. We would appreciate your time in completing this so we can evaluate this temporary process. You will then be able to access your certificate.

This course provides delegates with knowledge of safe moving and handling techniques and a basic knowledge of equipment they may need to use to safely move and handle a client. This course does not cover clients with restricted mobility issues, i.e. those who need hoisting or are cared for in bed. During the COVID 19 restrictions, This is covered in an additional 2 hour skype training session called Moving and Handling of People with Restricted Mobility for Care Support Workers/PAs. 

Due to the practical nature of moving and handling of people, it is recommended when accessible, candidates complete the face to face training available through East Sussex. 

The course covers:

  •  A basic knowledge of key legislation affecting the moving and handling and care of objects and people 
  •  Anatomy of the spine and how to reduce the risk of spinal injury by mplementing safe handling principles
  •  The importance of good sitting posture
  •  Knowledge of a range of safe moving and handling assisted mobility techniques, i.e. assisted standing techniques
  •  Techniques to assist someone getting in and out of a bed.

The PBS modular training is open to professionals, families and carers who support adults with learning disabilities who also have challenging needs.

PBS Sussex is a training model designed to equip direct carers with the knowledge and skills to provide a comprehensive response to challenging behaviour presented by people with intellectual disabilities. The model taught is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

Essentially, PBS is the application of behavioural analysis, guided by the values and principles of inclusion, within the context of Person Centred Planning. In keeping with the PBS model, the training is presented in modules with an emphasis on understanding the behaviour in useful ways, creating supportive environments and teaching new skills, a strong emphasis on intervening early in a crisis situation in order to diffuse and only using physical intervention as a last resort.


· Is values led

· Is based on an understanding of why, when and how behaviours happen

· Focuses on altering triggers for behaviour

· Uses skill teaching as a central intervention

· Uses changes in quality of life as both an intervention and outcome measure

· Has a long term focus

· Has a multi-component focus

· Reduces or eliminates the use of punishment approaches

· Includes both proactive strategies for changing behaviour and reactive strategies for managing behaviour when it occurs.
