Code: ASC/20/4 Induction to being a Personal Assistant

This course covers the knowledge base information of the Care Certificate. It is also a required course if you are applying to be an accredited PA by Support with Confidence (SWC) if you do not have a suitable qualification.

It is also open to people who are either employed as a PA or are thinking of taking on this role in the near future. If you wish to achieve the Care Certificate you will also need to undertake homework and be able to be assessed in your workplace by either volunteering to shadow one of our services or have agreement to be assessed in your workplace (as a PA).

Code: ASC/20/138 Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers/PAs: Refresher Course

This is a ½ day course covering low to medium mobility issues and use of equipment for service users.

The course covers:
Reiteration of legislation
Dynamic risk assessment
Well-being of both carer and service users
Assisting to stand
Support when walking
The use of a handling belt
Using a transfer board
Saturn turner
Molift riser
Dressing aids
Pushing a wheelchair.

This course has a large practical element and all participants are expected to practice all manoeuvres and use all equipment.

There will be no use of hoists or standaids or any bed work during this course. For these elements please book the half day Restricted

Code: ASC/20/139 Moving and Handling of People with Restricted Mobility for Care Support Workers/PAs

This half day course is for care givers who assist and provide personal care for those clients with limited mobility, i.e. clients who are non weight bearing, hoisted or spend prolonged periods in bed.

Applicants must have completed the 1 day Moving and Handling of People for Care Givers - Foundation Level prior to undertaking this training.

  • The course reflects back on legislation within care and health and safety and their relevance to moving and handling of people with complex needs
  • We teach candidates how to use a variety of equipment, including hoists and sling, various techniques for fitting slings with and without slide sheets
  • We cover the effects that immobility has on the body, in relation to posture, tissue viability, circulation etc and the importance of ensuring clients sit in a functional postural position and are repositioned appropriately
  • We look at clients who have restricted mobility within bed or who may need to spend prolonged periods within the bed, covering equipment and techniques to assist with rolling, repositioning in bed, techniques to fit slings and dress clients who have limited ability or are unable to be rolled.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops or open toe sandals.

The PBS modular training is open to professionals, families and carers who support adults with learning disabilities who also have challenging needs.

PBS Sussex is a training model designed to equip direct carers with the knowledge and skills to provide a comprehensive response to challenging behaviour presented by people with intellectual disabilities. The model taught is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

Essentially, PBS is the application of behavioural analysis, guided by the values and principles of inclusion, within the context of Person Centred Planning. In keeping with the PBS model, the training is presented in modules with an emphasis on understanding the behaviour in useful ways, creating supportive environments and teaching new skills, a strong emphasis on intervening early in a crisis situation in order to diffuse and only using physical intervention as a last resort.


PBS:

· Is values led

· Is based on an understanding of why, when and how behaviours happen

· Focuses on altering triggers for behaviour

· Uses skill teaching as a central intervention

· Uses changes in quality of life as both an intervention and outcome measure

· Has a long term focus

· Has a multi-component focus

· Reduces or eliminates the use of punishment approaches

· Includes both proactive strategies for changing behaviour and reactive strategies for managing behaviour when it occurs.

SharePoint is a half day of training for East Sussex County Council users to familiarise themselves with the SharePoint platform.
This course is for anyone joining an ESCC team that uses Sharepoint libraries to store team information and who has not used Sharepoint before. The course will also cover managing your own Onedrive site used for storing personal documentation.

A half day course designed to explore the case recording management procedures in line with the Care Act 2014 legal requirements. Staff will have an opportunity to practise case recording, discuss what to record, how to record, and proportionate recording with in agreed timescales.
