Code: ASC/21/583 Basic First Aid (specific with no practical element) – certificate valid for one year - Covid19 Interim Training Programme (EVENT FULL)

IMPORTANT: THIS TRAINING IS PART OF THE COVID-19 INTERIM TRAINING PROGRAMME AND IS SUITABLE FOR NEW AND EXISTNG STAFF.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT NEW STAFF ATTEND FACE TO FACE TRAINING WHEN AVAILABLE.

You will be sent a First Aid manual and workbook via email, so it’s vital that you give us your correct email address if it differs from the one on your East Sussex Learning Portal user account

Workbooks are not to be shared between colleagues; each person who wishes to complete this training MUST book their own place on it. Workbooks returned to the trainer by delegates who have not booked a place will NOT be marked

After reading the First Aid manual, please complete the workbook and return it (via an email with answers typed or completed in PDF, saved and returned) for marking to ann.holland@eastsussex.gov.uk by no later than the Thursday after you receive the manual.

Workbooks received after this time will not be marked and your training record will not be updated to show completion of this course.

Code: ASC/21/369 Dementia Awareness (Tiers 1 and 2) Module 1 (EVENT FULL)

This is a foundation level Online course and must be attended to attend other dementia related courses that explore specific aspects of Dementia in more detail (eg. behaviour, reablement, communication and interaction, activities). This course is aimed at all frontline staff to increase their awareness and knowledge of people who are experiencing Dementia.

The course is delivered via a Recorded PowerPoint presentation which has been uploaded on the ESCC YouTube Channel. The Course can be accessed over a 5-day period providing flexibility for the learner. There are various activities and case studies to engage the learner. The course requires the completion and return of a workbook which serves to foster a deeper level of learning.

The video (YouTube) can be viewed on all digital platforms (including mobile phone) and can be viewed independently or as a small group (dependent on organisational social distancing policy) so please ensure you have YouTube installed.

This is a remotely delivered course and delegates should therefore ignore any map or venue information.

Once your place on this event has been confirmed, you will receive a separate email from the trainer, providing you with all the resources you need to complete the training.

After completion of the training, please look out for an email to complete session evaluation. We would appreciate your time in completing this so we can evaluate this process. You will then be able to access your certificate.

Code: ASC/21/645 Moving and Handling of People and Objects for Care Support Workers, Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Level Part 2 (practical face to face session) - Covid19 Interim Training Programme

If you have booked Part 1 but have not yet attended, please provide us with the date you are booked to attend. NOTE: PART 1 MUST BE ATTENDED AND THE WORKBOOK COMPLETED, RETURNED AND MARKED BEFORE ATTENDING PART 2. You can provide this information in the Special Requirements field on your booking form.

This is Part 2 of a two-part blended learning training programme to be used to reduce face to face training time in accordance with COVID19 regulations.

Part 1 of the training (a virtual session via Skype or Teams) must be completed prior to attending Part 2, which is a face to face practical.

The Part 2 practical can also be applied for if candidates have attended a live SKYPE version of this course tilted “Moving and Handling of People and Objects for Care Support Workers/Volunteers and PAs - Foundation Level - Covid19 Interim Training Programme”.

To adhere to Covid19 regulations this face to face course will be small groups with PPE masks, aprons and gloves provided.

The course is 2.5 hours long and will cover practical elements of:

  • Mobility testing
  • Sit to stand techniques
  • Assisting from chair to chair
  • Assisting in and out of bed, including the use of bed levers, bed pulls, non-slip slide sheets, leg lifters, utilising the profiling mattress
  • Walking aids
  • Assisting to walk techniques
  • Handling belts
  • Assisting clients on steps and stairs
  • Sliding boards
  • Turning aids
  • Dressing aids
  • Wheelchairs, including placing a wheelchair into a car.

 

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops. Candidates will need to wear PPE.

NB. please note there is no access to any drinks or refreshments, so candidates will need to bring their own with them.

The course does not cover clients with restricted mobility, i.e who need hoisting or spend longer periods in bed. This is covered in an additional 2-part blended learning session. The 2-part foundation course must be completed before the restricted mobility course is undertaken.

During Covid19 restrictions these 2 courses replace the:

  • Moving and handling of objects ½ day
  • Moving and handling of people foundation level full day
  • Moving and handling advanced level, hoisting ½ day.

The part 2 practical can be applied for if candidates have attended a live VIRTUAL version of the course tilted “Moving and Handling of People with Restricted Mobility (e.g. hoists and slide sheets) for Care Support Workers/Volunteers and PAs - Covid19 Interim Training Programme”.

To adhere to Covid19 regulations this face to face course will be small groups with PPE masks, aprons and gloves provided.

The course is 2.5 hours long and will cover practical elements of: 

LOLER check requirements of carers
Caring for and assisting clients with restricted mobility
Choosing and fitting slings, in bed and in a seated position, with and without slide sheets
Hoisting clients from the bed and from a seated position
Safe use of slide sheets to reposition clients
In situ slide sheets, techniques and applications
The use of stand aids
Moving and handling plans
Using dressing aids for a client in bed.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops. Candidates will need to wear PPE.

Code: ESC/21/296 First Aid at Work (full certificate)

The First Aid at Work course, covered over 3 days, will qualify you as a First Aider and will enable you to deal with an accident or injury in the workplace. It will qualify you to diagnose a variety of possible illnesses and injuries and will enable you to assess the need to seek further medical attention.

At the end of the course there is a written exam and trainees must demonstrate the skills and knowledge learnt during the course, when there will be some hands on floor work. Trainees will receive a certificate at the end of the course and the qualification lasts for three years.

FAW or EFAW certificates that expired after 16 March 2020 can remain valid until 31 October 2020 or 6 months from date of expiry, whichever is later. All requalification training for these certificates should be completed by 31 March 2021. If you do not requalify before 31st March 2021, you will need to take the full 3 day First Aid course to requalify as a First Aider.
