The aim of this course is to provide substance misuse training to support individuals with substance misuse problems, contribute to their protection and carry out basic substance misuse interventions. Whilst also looking at the holistic response to problematic substance misuse needs, such as mental health, sexual health/exploitation, child protection, and the law.

Important note: It is essential that you have undertaken the Safeguarding Children and Alcohol and Drugs foundation (Modules 1 & 2) e-learning prior to coming on this course (see additional information under full details), or you may be turned away.

Code: ASC/19/770 The Risk Assessment Process for the Moving and Handling of Adults with Complex Needs

This two day course is an in-depth course aimed at key individuals within organisations that complete individual and complex moving and handling risk assessments and plans for adult patients or carers. The course aims to further develop their role as manual handling risk assessors and ensure that risk assessments completed are balanced, person centred, fit for purpose, optimise clients' abilities, and demonstrate clear reasoning of the risks that have been identified and how and why decisions have been reached to reduce them.

The course does not cover generic moving and handling risk assessments of objects. 

Staff should not have attended the ESCC 4 day Moving and handling train the trainer, as this course cover moving and handling risk assessment.

It covers:

  • Legislation that impacts and frames the manual handling risk assessments
  • Good practice in assessing risks D
  • Demonstrating a balanced risk assessment approach 
  • How to write a risk assessment and a concise moving and handling plan.

There will be some case scenarios to work through. 

The course differs from the 1 day course, with more complex case scenarios and time given for practical application of the moving and
handling techniques and equipment. 

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops.
