This focussed session provides an opportunity for frontline staff, including managers, to meet with representatives from the Appointee and Deputyship Team to discuss a case or seek general advice, support and guidance relating to Appointee and Deputyship at East Sussex.

A minute taker will also attend the session to capture what was discussed and agreed, and any follow up actions.

Any follow up actions from the Appointee and Deputyship Team will be communicated via email.

Important: This course is for all levels of Care and Support Workers who may find a person who has fallen. You must have completed Assisting the Fallen Person (Part 1) – Covid19 Interim Training Programme before undertaking the Practical (Part 2) Session which can be carried out on providers' own premises.

This course - Assisting the Fallen Person (Part 2) Practical use of Assistance Equipment - is for the practical use of a Elk lifting cushion, Felgains lifting chair or a hoist. This course has a large practical element.

The course covers:

* Scenario based use of the Fallen Person Check Sheet
* Body checks
* History taking
* Practical in scenario style for body checking
* Decision making for self-help or equipment use
* Practical use of the Mangar Elk and hoisting from the floor or any lifting equipment located in individual services.

Within this course, there will be discussions and images relating to all topics of First Aid such as severe bleeding, burns, seizures, Anaphylaxis, head and spinal injuries.

THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS:

Practical assessment:

During this course, your Trainer/Assessor will create scenarios to enable you to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have gained.

The assessment is ongoing throughout the course and your Trainer/Assessor will advise you when you are being assessed.

If you realise that you have done something incorrectly, please make the Trainer/Assessor aware of this and continue with the correct procedure.

If required, your Trainer/Assessor may also ask additional oral questions to support your practical demonstration confirming your knowledge.

Oral questioning:

During the observation of your practical demonstrations, the Trainer/Assessor will ask you questions relating to the scenario.

Learner Workbook:

In addition to practical observation, you will need to answer all questions contained in this Workbook.

Completion of the Workbook will be ongoing throughout the course and your Trainer/Assessor will tell you when to complete each question.

WHAT TO BRING?

• One form of identification (Driving Licence, Passport or Bank Card).

• Casual clothing is recommended, those which are loose fitting and comfortable. Due to the nature of the demonstrations, much of the practical work requires kneeling on the floor. It's best to wear trousers and flat shoes.

• Pen and paper for you to take notes with.

• Make sure to bring lunch as none will be provided.

Code: ASC/22/984 Moving and Handling for People with Dementia

This course will be delivered via In-Person Classroom training. You will be expected to attend a specific venue on the date(s) of the training. Please see the course full details and attached map for further information.

This course is aimed at those who care and provide moving and handling assistance for people with dementia. The course looks at the challenges and issues that can arise when helping someone with dementia to move and transfer.

The course covers:

* Symptoms of dementia that affect mobility and movement
* The differences between violence, aggression, anxiety and fear and factors influencing the above
* Behaviour in dementia, focusing on non verbal, verbal and physical. Possible reasons and triggers for such behaviour
* Triggers that can be linked to behaviour specific to moving and handling techniques and strategies; and interventions that can be utilised to reduce distress, including equipment and handling techniques

* Risk assessing for those with dementia and fluctuating ability.

Part of the course is practical so participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops.

This 2.5 hrs virtual refresher workshop will be delivered via Microsoft Teams and is aimed at staff who work with adults with care and support needs, who need to know the basics of safeguarding, legal responsibilities and good practice. It is designed to update knowledge and skills of staff who have already completed the Safeguarding Basic Awareness E-learning course in line with the Care Act 2014 and the Sussex Multi Agency Policy and Procedures.

The training course is in line with the Care Act 2014 and the Sussex Multi Agency Policy and Procedures.

We are able to accept a maximum of 3 booking requests per organisation to ensure fair distribution of the places on this training course. Please do not request more than 3 places for your staff, as we may need to cancel them to allow others to attend.
