Code: ASC/20/209 Level 2 Award in Food Safety for PAs and Kitchen/Catering staff in DPS (Cancelled)

This course is only suitable for kitchen/catering staff in DPS, and Personal Assistants who prepare or handle foods for clients.

The qualification is equivalent to the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering and the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Retail.  

IMPORTANT: All participants will be required to bring to the course photo identification as proof of their identity for checking by the trainer. Failure to provide identification will result in the person being turned away from the training. This is a requirement of the qualification awarding body. The following forms of photo ID are acceptable.

- Valid passport

- Signed UK photo card Driving Licence

- Current employer photo ID card

- Student ID card

- Travel Card

Where none of the above are available another form of ID containing a signature MAY be accepted e.g. credit card where the trainer is satisfied the signature on the ID matches the participant’s signature on the attendance list.

Code: ASC/20/354 Moving and Handling of People for Care Support Workers/PAs - Foundation Level (Cancelled)

This one day course provides delegates with knowledge of safe moving and handling techniques and a basic knowledge of equipment they may encounter and need to use to safely move and handle a client. This course does not cover clients with minimal mobility, i.e. those who need hoisting or are bed-bound. This is covered in an additional half day course called Moving and Handling of People with Restricted Mobility for Care Support Workers/PAs, that can only be completed when the full day foundation course is completed.

The course covers:

  • A basic knowledge of key legislation affecting the moving and handling and care of people
  • Anatomy of the spine and how to reduce the risk of spinal injury by implementing safe handling principles
  • The importance of good sitting posture
  • Risk assessment and moving and handling plans
  • Knowledge of a range of safe moving and handling assisted mobility techniques, i.e. assisted standing and walking techniques
  • Techniques and equipment to assist someone getting in and out of a bed
  • Basic ability testing in a chair
  • Familiarisation of a range of moving and handling equipment including walking aids, turn tables, handling belts, assisted standing equipment, wheelchairs including getting it into a car safely
  • Assistance with dressing and dressing aids.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flip-flops or open toed shoes.

Code: ASC/20/210 Safeguarding: Using Coaching Skills to Support an Adult to Identify their Desired Outcomes during their Safeguarding Enquiry (Cancelled)

Staff wishing to attend this training will either be Lead Enquiry Officers or staff contributing to a Safeguarding Enquiry.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants MUST have previously completed Safeguarding awareness training and/or Enquiry Officer/Lead Enquiry Officer training, since the implementation of the Care Act 2014. 

These multi agency sessions are designed for staff whose role it is to support adults to identify their desired outcomes and to co-produce safeguarding plans, as part of the Safeguarding Enquiry.

Any staff attending who do not meet the pre-requisite requirements of this training may be turned away and potentially could incur a late cancellation fee.

 The course duration will be a half day, including:

  • An update on Making Safeguarding Personal - temperature check
  • Examining the benefits of using coaching skills to support an adult to determine outcomes
  • Exploring coaching techniques.
