Manual Handling Training for Occupational Therapists - Foundation Level (Cancelled)
This one day course is aimed at Occupational Therapists to develop their role in assessing moving and handling requirements within their role in the community. The course is aimed at Occupational Therapists with less experience in this area.
This course covers:
A basic knowledge of key legislation affecting the moving and handling of people, anatomy of the spine and how to reduce the risk of spinal injury by implementing safe lifting principles
Basic knowledge of sitting posture
Understanding the requirements and importance of risk assessments and moving and handling plans; risk assessing issues in relation to at risk equipment e.g. bed side rails
Knowledge of a range of safe moving and handling assisted mobility techniques, i.e. assisted standing, walking, getting in and out of a bed
Basic ability testing
A familiarisation of moving and handling equipment including walking aids, assisted standing equipment, slings, hoists and slide sheets and their safe use
Completing a basic moving and handling risk assessment and learning skills to complete a balanced risk assessment.
For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops.
