In today's world, public sector organisations need to recognise and incorporate an inclusive and diverse approach in how they supply goods and services and how they engage with their community and their workforce. To do so, employers and employees must develop an awareness of equality and diversity to help them understand what it means and how to met the needs of a diverse customer base and workforce.

This one day training course delivers a comprehensive program, designed to develop participant's understanding of the law, how to achieve compliance and also provide insights on how to create an inclusive workplace and in the services it provides.

You will need to bring your laptop with you on the day.

Code: ASC/19/758 Manual Handling Training for Occupational Therapists - Foundation Level (Cancelled)

This one day course is aimed at Occupational Therapists to develop their role in assessing moving and handling requirements within their role
in the community. The course is aimed at Occupational Therapists with less experience in this area.

This course covers:

  • A basic knowledge of key legislation affecting the moving and handling of people, anatomy of the spine and how to reduce the risk of spinal injury by implementing safe lifting principles
  • Basic knowledge of sitting posture
  • Understanding the requirements and importance of risk assessments and moving and handling plans; risk assessing issues in relation to at risk equipment e.g. bed side rails
  • Knowledge of a range of safe moving and handling assisted mobility techniques, i.e. assisted standing, walking, getting in and out of a bed
  • Basic ability testing
  • A familiarisation of moving and handling equipment including walking aids, assisted standing equipment, slings, hoists and slide sheets and their safe use
  • Completing a basic moving and handling risk assessment and learning skills to complete a balanced risk assessment.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be
flat/low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops.

A 1.5 day interactive session for care home staff, who provide care to residents approaching the end of their life, and how to embed best practice in end of life care within their care home.

This training is aimed at support workers in care homes who deliver care to residents who may be approaching the end of their life. 

Delegates are required to attend both the whole day End of Life Care and the half day Advanced Care Planning training to complete this course.
