Code: ASC/20/213 Basic Epilepsy Awareness Training - for Learning Disability Services (non ESCC) ONLY (Cancelled)

This training is ONLY suitable for those working in a Learning Disability service. East Sussex County Council staff should not attend this training but should refer to the ESCC DPS ONLY courses.   
 
  •  At the end of the training, a Community Learning Disability Nurse will demonstrate how to administer emergency medication used in epilepsy and you will watch a DVD of safe administration of Buccal Midazolam. You will also have the opportunity to practice the administration of rectal diazepam.
    If you require the rectal Diazepam training, please contact the Adult Social Care training team at asct@eastsussex.gov.uk  to confirm this. There is specific equipment needed that will only be brought on courses where delegates have confirmed a need for rectal Diazepam training. 
  •  Your manager will be responsible for providing on going support in the workplace but it will be your responsibility to highlight any concerns you have regarding administration of the medication.
  •  A certificate of attendance will be provided; this is not a certificate of competence.

This course is designed for those who may need to complete Mental Capacity Act (MCA) assessments and make best interest decisions.   This is an advanced course - participants will have done a basic awareness course or suitable online training first.

Included in the afternoon session around best interests will be guidance for chairing best interest meetings –although this is an all day course if you only need the chairing best interest meeting part, please come for the PM session only which will start approx. 1.30. IF YOU WILL ONLY BE ATTENDING IN THE AFTERNOON, PLEASE ENSURE YOU ADVISE WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR BOOKING REQUEST.

Code: ASC/20/355 Moving and Handling of People with Dementia (Cancelled)

Delegates must have attended the foundation level course before attending this training session.

This half day course is aimed at those who care and provide moving and handling assistance for people with dementia. The course looks at the challenges and issues that can arise when helping someone with dementia to move and transfer.

The course covers:

  • Symptoms of dementia that affect mobility and movement
  • The differences between violence, aggression, anxiety and fear and factors influencing them
  • Behaviour in dementia, focusing on non verbal, verbal and physical. Possible reasons and triggers for such behaviour
  • Triggers that can be linked to behaviour specific to moving and handling techniques and strategies and interventions that can be utilised to reduce distress, including equipment and handling techniques
  • Risk assessing for those with dementia and fluctuating ability.

Important information: For the practical element of this training participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel with closed in toes. Flipflops/summer sandals are not appropriate. Please note that if delegates are not wearing appropriate footwear, they may be turned away from the course by the trainer, and a charge will be made for the wasted place.
