Code: ASC/22/70 Positive Behaviour Support (c) (EVENT FULL)

The PBS modular training is open to professionals, families and carers who support adults with learning disabilities who also have challenging needs.

PBS Sussex is a training model designed to equip direct carers with the knowledge and skills to provide a comprehensive response to challenging behaviour presented by people with intellectual disabilities. The model taught is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

Essentially, PBS is the application of behavioural analysis, guided by the values and principles of inclusion, within the context of Person Centred Planning. In keeping with the PBS model, the training is presented in modules with an emphasis on understanding the behaviour in useful ways, creating supportive environments and teaching new skills, a strong emphasis on intervening early in a crisis situation in order to diffuse and only using physical intervention as a last resort.

PBS:

· Is values led

· Is based on an understanding of why, when and how behaviours happen

· Focuses on altering triggers for behaviour

· Uses skill teaching as a central intervention

· Uses changes in quality of life as both an intervention and outcome measure

· Has a long term focus

· Has a multi-component focus

· Reduces or eliminates the use of punishment approaches

· Includes both proactive strategies for changing behaviour and reactive strategies for managing behaviour when it occurs.

Note: You will be advised no less than 2 weeks prior to the course date for Day 1 of this training if you have been confirmed a place. If you have not heard by this time, please contact us so that we can look into this for you.
