This is a Distance Learning Course via presentation on YouTube and a Microsoft Form Quiz and takes approximately 2 hours to complete. 

For those without access to Microsoft forms a hard copy can be sent by special request. Please add this to the special requirements box on the portal when signing onto the course.

The course is the theory (Part 1), covering Assessment of the Fallen Person using a decision-making tool/check sheet to assess for injury and is there a need to call for an ambulance. The check sheet can also be used for information gathering prior to an ambulance arrival for the injured person.
For the uninjured or minor injury the course covers how to assist with self-help from the floor or when to call for and the use of a Elk lifting cushion, Felgains Lifting Chair or a Hoist.

This course has a no practical element.

The course covers:

• Fallen person check sheet
• Additional information relating to fractures which may not have been covered in basic first aid training
• Pain assessment
• Body checks
• History taking
• Practicals in scenario style for body checking included in the workbook
• Decision making for self-help or equipment use.

This course will be delivered via Online Recorded Video, and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue.

Important: This training is part of the Covid19 interim training programme and is suitable for new and existing staff. It is recommended that new staff attend face to face training when available.

This is part 1 of a two part blended learning training program to be used to reduce face to face training time in accordance with COVID 19 regulations.

This must be completed and the workbook assessed prior to undertaking Part 2 of Level 1 or other levels of training in this topic.
Part 1 of the training can be completed as a standalone course for theory only.

The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete the viewing of the presentation from YouTube and the completion of a workbook.

The workbook will be assessed and returned the following week.

The presentation covers:

• What dysphagia is
• Clients most likely to be diagnosed
• Introduction to the different textures prescribed
• Introduction to the thickeners used
• How to test for correct thicknesses
• Complications if the prescription is not followed correctly.

You will be sent a link to a resource and also a link for the workbook on Microsoft forms via email, so it’s vital that you give us your correct email address if it differs from the one on your East Sussex Learning Portal user account.

Links are not to be shared between colleagues; each person who wishes to complete this training MUST book their own place on it. The Microsoft form must be completed.

Your completed workbook/Microsoft form should be submitted no later than 10 am of the Friday after you receive the course information.
Submissions received after this time will not be marked and your training record will not be updated to show completion of this course. Only the first submission will be looked at. Please do not submit more than once. Ann will assess your submission and send summative feedback.

Your East Sussex Learning Portal user account will be updated to show completion of this training once your workbook has been marked.
Please look out for an email to complete session evaluation. We would appreciate your time in completing this so we can evaluate this temporary process. You will then be able to access your certificate online.

This course will be delivered via an Online TEAMS meeting and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue. This course is for care givers who assist and provide personal care for those clients with limited mobility, i.e. clients who are non-weight bearing, hoisted or spend prolonged periods in bed.

The course covers the following:

• Reflection on health and safety and care legislation relevant to moving and handling of people with complex needs
• Via videos we demonstrate a variety of equipment, including hoists and slings, stand aids and in-situ slide sheets
• We discuss various techniques for fitting slings with and without slide sheets
• We cover the effects that immobility has on the body, in relation to posture, tissue viability, circulation etc and the importance of ensuring clients sit in a functional postural position and are repositioned appropriately
• We discuss the needs of clients who have restricted mobility within bed or who may need to spend prolonged periods within the bed, covering equipment and techniques to assist with rolling, repositioning in bed, techniques to fit slings for clients who have limited ability or are unable to be rolled.

This course is for staff who may have to assist a client who has been prescribed a texture modified diet or has difficulty in swallowing with both food and drinks.

Delegates must have already undertaken Level 1, Part 1 (theory) before applying for this course.

The course takes approximately 1 hour for the face to face use of the thickening powders and undertaking the drip test, to show correct texture.

The practical covers:

• A reiteration of the need for correct textures for clients with dysphagia
• Introduction to the thickeners prescribed
• How to mix the thickeners into a drink
• How to test for correct thicknesses
• Complications if the prescription is not followed correctly.

This course will be delivered via Online Recorded Video, and you will not be expected to attend a specific venue.

An online learning course for staff working with people who are at risk of falls. The course utilises a recorded (voice over) PowerPoint presentation which can be viewed multiple times. There are also various activities and a case study to engage the learner. The course requires the completion of a workbook which serves to foster a deeper level of learning.

Course links and materials will be sent by midday on the day of your course.

• Closed captions have also been added to the presentation for delegates who are hard of hearing if this is their preferred method of access. Earphones or other assistive technology can also be used.

The workbook comes in a Word document format so access to Microsoft Word is required.

Once your place has been confirmed, the trainer will issue you with the necessary links and workbook by midday on the day of the course.
