The course is ½ day covering low to medium mobility issues and use of equipment for service users.

This course has a large practical element.

The course covers:

  •  Reiteration of legislation
  •  Dynamic risk assessment
  •  Well-being of both carer and service users
  •  Assisting to stand
  •  Support when walking
  •  The use of a handling belt
  •  Using a transfer board
  •  Saturn turner
  •  Molift riser
  •  Dressing aids
  •  Pushing a wheelchair.

This course has a large practical element and all participants are expected to practice all manoeuvres and use all equipment.

There will be no use of hoists or standaids or any bed work during this course. For these elements please book the half day restricted
mobility course.

This one day course is aimed at key individuals within organisations that complete individual moving and handling risk assessments and plans for adult patients or carers.

The course aims to further develop their role as manual handling risk assessors to:

  • Ensure that risk assessments completed are balanced, person centred, fit for purpose, optimise clients' abilities
  • Demonstrate clear reasoning of the risks that have been identified and how and why decisions have been reached to reduce them.

It covers:

  • Legislation that impacts and frames the manual handling risk assessments
  • Good practice in assessing risks
  • Demonstrating a balanced risk assessment approach
  • How to write a risk assessment and a concise manual handling plan.

There will be some case scenarios to work through.

Please note:

  • This course does not cover generic moving and handling risk assessments of objects
  • Staff should not have attended the ESCC 4 day Moving and Handling train the trainer as this course covers moving and handling risk assessment.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flipflops.

This one day course provides delegates with knowledge of safe Moving and Handling techniques and a basic knowledge of equipment they may encounter and need to use to safely move and handle a client. This course does not cover clients with minimal mobility, i.e. those who need hoisting or are bed-bound. This is covered in an additional half day course called Moving and Handling of People with Restricted Mobility for Care Support Workers/PAs, that can only be completed when the full day foundation course is completed.

The course covers:

  • A basic knowledge of key legislation affecting the moving and handling and care of people
  • Anatomy of the spine and how to reduce the risk of spinal injury by implementing safe handling principles
  • The importance of good sitting posture
  • Risk assessment and moving and handling plans
  • Knowledge of a range of safe moving and handling assisted mobility techniques, i.e. assisted standing and walking techniques
  • Techniques and equipment to assist someone getting in and out of a bed
  • Basic ability testing in a chair
  • Familiarisation of a range of moving and handling equipment including walking aids, turn tables, handling belts, assisted standing equipment, wheelchairs including getting it into a car safely
  • Assistance with dressing and dressing aids.

For the practical element participants attending should be fit, dressed appropriately and able to fully participate. Footwear should be flat/ low heel and closed in toes. No flip-flops or open toed shoes.

A 1.5 day interactive session for managers/senior care home staff who are responsible for leading on best practice and for ensuring that excellence in end of life care and in advance care planning is embedded within their organisation. 

This training is aimed at Managers and Senior staff in care homes with responsibility for implementing best practice, staff training and/or completing person centred support/care plans.

You will explore the practical aspects of advance care planning including communication skills, timing and appropriateness of the conversations and how to document and share the information. 

Delegates are required to attend both the whole day End of Life Care and the half day Advanced Care Planning training to complete this course.
