This ½ day course is designed and delivered by ROVIs (Rehabilitation Officers for the Visually Impaired), and is an opportunity for staff to increase their understanding of the range of issues affecting people who are visually impaired. It provides a chance to explore and test out best practice through a series of practical exercises and learning.

This course is open to anyone interested in the role of the Personal Assistant (PA) or who is considering becoming a PA in health and social care, and will be delivered via two in-person classroom sessions and one session on Microsoft Teams - please note the dates and delivery method of each date.

It is required training for anyone joining the Support with Confidence accreditation scheme as a Personal Assistant.

You will be sent a First Aid manual and workbook via email, so it’s vital that you give us your correct email address if it differs from the one on your East Sussex Learning Portal user account.


Workbooks are not to be shared between colleagues; each person who wishes to complete this training MUST book their own place on it. Workbooks returned to the trainer by delegates who have not booked a place will NOT be marked.


After reading the First Aid manual, please complete the Microsoft forms workbook by no later than 10am the Thursday after you receive the manual.


Submissions received after this time will not be marked and your training record will not be updated to show completion of this course. Please only submit once as only the first submission will be looked at. Ann will assess your submission and send summative feedback to you.


Your East Sussex Learning Portal user account will be updated to show completion of this training once your workbook has been marked.


This is a distance learning course which does not involve attendance at a training venue or a virtual meeting. This is an online training course aimed at frontline staff who are working directly with people who are experiencing dementia. (Tier 2 - linked to Dementia Training Standards Framework 2018).

Course links and materials will be sent by midday on the day of your course.

*NOTE: It is recommended that you have completed Module 1: Dementia Awareness (Tiers 1 and 2) prior to taking this course to optimise your learning. These courses run regularly each month*

  • This course looks at what medications are used to treat people with dementia including cognitive enhancers, psychotropics and pain management
  • The course is delivered via a recorded PowerPoint presentation which has been uploaded on the ESCC YouTube Channel. The course can be accessed over a 5-day period providing flexibility for the learner. There are various activities and case studies to engage the learner. The course requires the completion of an online assessment. This serves to consolidate and evidence learning
  • The video (YouTube) can be viewed on all digital platforms (including mobile phone) and can be viewed independently or as a small group (dependent on organisational social distancing policy) so please ensure you have YouTube installed.

As a result of the LGSCO decision, and the SAR of Adult B, Adult C and Child T, this workshop is offered as an opportunity for staff to refresh and update their knowledge of domestic abuse. We will explore what we understand about domestic abuse including coercion and control, practice challenges when working with adults with care and support needs, professional curiosity in assessing risk, safety planning and how to complete the Domestic Abuse, Stalking and 'Honour'-based violence (DASH) risk assessment tool.

Staff will need to have completed the three Domestic Abuse eLearning modules on the East Sussex Learning Portal before taking part in this session:

  1. Domestic Abuse – Foundation Module 1: What is domestic abuse?
  2. Domestic Abuse – Foundation Module 2: Impact and building resilience, and barriers to seeking support
  3. Domestic Abuse – Foundation Module 3: Risk identification, assessment and management
